An opener is the part people notice most, because it is the part that talks back. It beeps, it flashes, it refuses to close, it wakes up the bedroom above the garage. We repair openers and install new ones.
A lot of "opener problems" are not the opener. A door that is out of balance makes the opener work far harder than it was designed to, and the opener is just the thing that finally gave up. We check the door first, because replacing an opener on an unbalanced door will get you a second dead opener.
When you do need a new one, we will point you at the drive type that fits the garage — belt drive if there is living space above, chain if it is a detached shop and you would rather spend the money elsewhere, wall-mount if headroom is tight or you want the ceiling clear.
Common opener symptoms
- The opener runs but the door does not move
- The door goes down and immediately comes back up

- Grinding or a whirring noise with no motion — usually a stripped gear

How the job runs

Check the door, not just the motor
We disconnect the opener and lift the door by hand. If it is heavy or does not stay put at waist height, the springs are the real problem and we fix that first.

Diagnose the unit
Sensors, wiring, logic board, capacitor, gear set. Older units often come down to one twelve-dollar part.

Repair or replace, your call
We give you both numbers. On a unit past roughly fifteen years with a dead board, replacement is usually the better spend, and we will say so.

Install and program
New unit mounted and braced, rail set, sensors installed at the correct height, limits and force dialed in.

Set up your remotes
Remotes, keypad, wall console, car buttons and the phone app if the unit has one. We do not leave until they all work.
Openers questions
My door closes halfway then goes back up. Is the opener bad?
Usually not. That is the safety system doing its job — most often a misaligned or dirty photo eye, or the down force set too low for a door that has gotten stiff. Both are quick fixes. If the door is also heavy by hand, the springs are the underlying cause.
Belt drive or chain drive?
Belt drive if there is a bedroom or office over the garage, or the garage is attached to a quiet part of the house — it is noticeably quieter. Chain drive is fine for a detached garage or shop and costs less. Wall-mount is the answer when you have low headroom, want storage overhead, or want the quietest option available.
Can you program my car to the opener?
Yes, on most vehicles with a built-in HomeLink-style system. Bring the car in the garage when we are there and we will pair it before we leave.
Do new openers need battery backup?
Georgia does not currently require it the way California does, but if your garage is the main way into the house it is worth having. Storm season here takes the power out, and a manual release in the dark with a car in the way is a bad time.
